BIO

Andres Villaseñor most recent short, Good Intentions, a devastating and highly empathetic documentary film that won the best international short documentary award at the Atlanta DocuFest in 2021, fallowed by a very successful run in film festivals all over the world as part as their official selection and special screenings including Oslo, Poland, Belgium and the Sheffield DocFest in 2022.

Born and bred in Guadalajara Mexico, Andres is a Mexican/Spanish filmmaker.

From a very early age, he was very passionate about film and TV, he used to skip school and hit the cinema where he would watch 2 or 3 films in a row. However, it was only when while choosing the usual Friday night VHS whit his family at the local blockbuster that he came across The Shawshank Redemption and Se7e, it was right there and then, he vowed to become the next great filmmaker of his generation.

In his teens, he studied photography and screenwriting.

His first photography exposition, a black & white analogue essay about poverty in the suburbs of his native city was shown at galleries all over his home state gaining recognition from his peers.

He then moved from still images to moving ones, he won a screenwriting competition and was awarded a grand to shoot his first short film ¨Jimena de media Noche¨ which was shown at the Guadalajara International Film Festival.

At 19, he moved to London for what some people call a ¨gap year¨, although he ended up overstaying his welcome for five more years after that, a time he used to study courses in filmmaking and work whatever jobs in production he could get his hands on so he could learn at most as possible.

A while after he then gained a scholarship to study a BA in digital filmmaking & journalism at SAE Institute, Middlesex University, in Shoreditch north London.

He then relocated to Mallorca Spain after meeting his better half, he now currently lives and works as a Casting Director for a world-renown production company while also keeping on directing and editing his passion projects.

—NOW

For me, film whether it is fiction or documentary, music video, or even advertisements is no more than a platform to be used as an opportunity to change people's perspective of the world, and that way open doors whilst opening minds.

No better way to express my feelings for the moving images than a quote from one of my favourite films. Also, it happened to be a Mel Gibson film.

Malcolm Wallace (William Wallas's father) - ¨Your heart is free, have the courage to follow it¨

Also, depending on the situation, The Coen brothers put it best.

¨Fuck it Dude, let´s go bowling¨
